On November 8, four of Spartanburg’s leading chefs competed in the annual American Heart Association Spartanburg Chef Challenge. The event, which was locally sponsored by Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, attracted over 200 guests from the Upstate region.
Guests had the opportunity to taste heart-healthy dishes prepared by each chef and vote for their favorite. Chef Bill Zabala from Morrison Healthcare Food Services was the winner of this year’s event. His delicious tuna dish along with an avocado chocolate mousse was a guest favorite!

Our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
