Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play is now in its 8th year of inspiring kids and families everywhere to ‘get up, go out and play. To celebrate this monumental event, Nickelodeon, TeenNick, NickToons, and Nick Jr will once again ‘go dark’ and suspend all programming all afternoon to emphasize the importance of choosing an active and healthy lifestyle.
Now is the time to bring this iconic kids’ health and wellness effort to Washington in a big way. With the help of signature partners, Washington DC will serve as the global headquarters of Worldwide Day of Play. Live from The Mall, Nickelodeon is partnering with Let’s Move & the President’s Council on Fitness Sports and Nutrition, and the National Park Service to create an entire day celebrating active healthy play and the success of 1 million Americans completing the PALA Challenge.
The theme of the American Heart Association’s station at the Worldwide Day of Play will be Eat Well + Walk More = Live Longer. The goal will be to connect healthy eating with fun physical activities that families can do together.
The American Heart Association will distribute Family Fitness Kits at the Worldwide Day of Play. These fun, card decks include activities the entire family can do together. As part of our booth, we will feature 2-3 physical activities from the Family Fitness Kits and also will highlight our Teaching Garden initiative. We will offer a hands on activity to introduce children and families to the concept of gardening. The American Heart Association will also focus on our efforts to advocate for school wellness policies in support of increased physical education and improved nutrition standards for school meals.
