Hampton Roads, Virginia – The American Heart Association Hampton Roads, VA team secured a grant to continue the success of mobile kitchen classes in Portsmouth, VA. Through partnerships with the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), the program will provide a 5-week mobile kitchen class series at four locations to help reach underserved community members.
An additional impact area of the Simple Cooking with Heart Mobile Kitchen program will take place at five mobile food pantry locations where AHA will partner with the food pantry to conduct heart-healthy food demos/taste tests (incorporating fresh food pantry items), provide recipe cards and other heart-healthy resources. We anticipate improvements to both sugar levels and blood pressure readings for select program participants. Learn more and get involved here.
Our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
