For those of you whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting, allow me to share a bit about myself. I am a professor in the Department of Epidemiology in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over the years I have held several research and teaching positions and have served the AHA in many roles, including as a member of the MAA Board of Directors, national’s Stroke Quality and Outcomes Committee, chair of the Statistics Committee, and guest editor for AHA’s journal Circulation, among others. I have also been active in advocacy efforts in my home state of North Carolina and currently serve as a legislative appointee on the N.C. Stroke Advisory Council.
One of the areas I am passionate about is improving the quality of healthcare delivery systems and the care patients receive. Through AHA’s Get With The Guidelines quality improvement efforts we are working to ensure that all patients receive top-notch care when faced with a cardiovascular event or stroke. Visit heart.org/quality to learn more about these efforts and how you can help. Also, be sure to check out the “new and improved” hospital map to find AHA/ASA recognized facilities at heart.org/myhospital.
I am excited about what we will accomplish this year. We will push toward our 2020 Impact Goal and strive to promote a sustainable culture of health in our communities. I look forward to getting to know the affiliates remarkable volunteers and staff better and learning how I can help us follow the shared passion that has brought us together.
