A message from the MAA Board President
As you all know, Washington, D.C. has been a sea of turmoil over budget battles and “sequestration,” or the mandatory budget cuts that have taken effect this month. The American Heart Association is closely monitoring the potential impact of these on heart disease and stroke research. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is facing the possibility of a 5.1% or $1.6 billion budget reduction. We can only continue the extraordinary research progress we have made by urging Congress to make the NIH a national priority. You can help in several ways. You can visit ResearchSavesLives.org to write a letter to your state and federal policy makers about the importance of the NIH to the advancement of medical research and the lives of those touched by cardiovascular disease. If you are not engaged already in yourethecure.org as an online advocate, please join today and take action! You’re The Cure is a wonderful way to keep up with our issues in your state, as well as the latest from Federal Lobby Day on April 8 and 9.
