On April 15, 2015 former Mayor of Columbia, Bob Coble, collapsed at the South Carolina State House. He didn’t know it at the time, but he was having a heart attack- the widowmaker.
Bystanders were quick to respond, started CPR, and accessed the AED. After 6 bypass surgeries, he is now an active volunteer for the American Heart Association and even serves on the local Columbia Board encouraging everyone to take the appropriate steps to a heart-healthy life. We appreciate all of his efforts in helping us spread the mission of the AHA. You can watch more about his story here.
Our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
