The American Heart Association is calling all kids across the country to Ride with Heart during the month of June! We are excited to invite saddle clubs and equine enthusiasts to support the AHA’s mission to end heart disease by Riding with Heart. This is a fun and exciting platform where your club members can learn what they can do to take care of their own heart health while helping others and raising money for the American Heart Association. We already have several saddle clubs joining the campaign, including some kids from the AHA Beach Ride. Read Faith’s testimonial below:)
“My name is Faith Waelz, I am 13 years old and I ride in memory of my Grandpa. He was an amazing horseman and I still miss him. I also ride in honor of my friend’s little brother who had a heart transplant when he was just a year old. I believe raising money for the heart association because it saves lives. It has become more important to me every year because people have shared stories with me about and how heart disease has affected their lives. Last year I finally achieved my goal of being a super star fundraiser and I can’t wait to do it again! This year I have started a team with my friend Savannah so we can raise even more, so far we have 9 people committed to our team and I am working on getting some of my 4H friends to join as well.
I am ready to work hard raising money for AHA. I am making and selling bows and arrows again this year, my handmade bows and arrows are very safe and are great for beginners, they are also awesome to practice mounted archery. I will be selling a mounted archery experience using my horse Maddie to give folks an introduction into this cool sport. Each month our local horseman’s association has a show, our team has permission to have educational materials available and do a fundraiser at each one (like a bake sale or raffle). I am coordinating with nurses at my church to sponsor a healthy heart campaign and a blood pressure screening this fall to raise awareness for heart health and raise money for AHA! My team is planning to organize a fundraising trail ride at a local state park, we will accept donations for AHA at the ride. I have shared lots of our ideas but my favorite idea for raising funds this year is to make my Birthday Party ‘heart themed’ and ask people to donate to the heart association instead of bringing gifts for me. That way my friends and family can be a part of giving the gift of life.”
To register and start your fundraising campaign, visit www.heart.org/ridewithheart. You can get competitive with other 4-H clubs across the country who are also passionate about being Heart Heroes. The 4-H club member who raises the most amount of money will win a package to the 2019 American Heart Association Beach Ride in Myrtle Beach, SC on November 6th-10th where 2,000 horseback riders come from across the country travel to ride on the beach to Ride with Heart!
Our mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. For nearly 100 years, we’ve been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second globally. Even when those conditions don’t result in death, they cause disability and diminish quality of life. We want to see a world free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
